Happy Almost New Year! January 1st is a great day, not only because of all of the football games, but because it’s the first day of a fresh, new year. There are a few things I do to start my year off right – set my goals, resolutions and slogan for the year, and clean the house.
By the end of the last bowl game I’ll have set a measurable goal in each of the following categories: heath, financial/retirement, and professional/career related. The key factor here is measurable. By the end of the year I should be able to conclusively know if I met said goals.
Resolutions are fluffy, feel good things, like get regular pedicures or take a vacation outside of North America. They are fun and will be great to complete, but won’t have a long term negative effect if not fulfilled.
Creating a slogan is fairly new; I’ve only been doing it for a few years but it’s GREAT! Everyone should have a slogan. It’s something you can repeat to yourself to help maintain focus. Whether it’s when you are working out, driving, or running errands. saying your slogan is a fabulous (quick & easy) way to remind yourself what is important to you for the year. I think I’m cheating a bit, but I’m going to carry over last years slogan to 2010. In my defense I didn’t use it all year and I like it a lot. My slogan in “Invest in Yourself.” Good, isn’t it? Feel free to use it if you’d like!
And a clean house is such a great way to start the year! I do ALL of the laundry so that the only things that will need cleaning are the clothes on my body. Dishes done, floors mopped and windows washed. Cabinet doors are cleaned, the garbage disposal is freshened, the oven and fireplace are cleaned, and bathrooms are scrubbed until sparkly. My place smells of Method cleaning products, and let me tell you, it’s a good smell.
Also, January 1 is the start of 365 Days of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). While I know I can’t banish negativity entirely from the Universe, I can take steps to defray the negative energy that creeps in and limit my intake of negative energy form others. I like to think that I’m a pretty positive person, but I aim to find silver linings everywhere this year. 2010 is going to be awesome! Have a great 2010, people!

I like the slogan idea…mine for the new year is “STAY CALM AND CARRY ON”. I borrowed it from Family Circle. I figure if I can curtail all the worrying that has accompanied some of the bad situations of 2009, then I may be able to start “Investing in Myself” for 2010! Your blog is an inspiration, thanks!
Oh, that’s a good one! I’m sure Family Circle won’t mind. Yes, curtail the worrying – it doesn’t do any good. Only action does!
Ha ha! I actually followed through on our MNFC conversation. And in a timely manor too. That of course being to read this particular blog. And I really like it. You always impress me with your positive attitude and I like these life philosophies too. Thanks for being the awesome person that you are! And I am totally going to try your slogan and goal philosophy for 2011. Can’t wait to read more!
